Shoulder

So according to the x rays the hospital ran, I have osteoarthritis in my left shoulder, along with something called "rotator cuff tendinopathy". It basically means the tendons in my shoulder got stretched a bit, and it's going to take a long time to heal. And I'll probably still have some discomfort even after it heals due to the arthritis. Getting old sucks. I have a physical Therapy appointment in a few days, I expect that won't help much in the short term but who knows. It's been over 2 months since I got hurt, and while sometimes it doesn't bother me, any time I stretch my left arm above a 90 degree angle it hurts. Not a lot, but it hurts. I started working on some frontend web development courses online last week. I found them through the Mozilla Developers Network. It's a site called scrimba.com, and they have interactive lessons that start from scratch and build up to much of what would be considered "modern" web development standards. So far it's been okay, I haven't got much to show for it yet but its a good refresher for my web design skills (or lack thereof). I bought a year-long membership and I'll be working on it some later today. I already did some DataCamp lessons so I'm keeping up with that too. The cabinet for my toolbox project is fully painted finally. I've been slacking on that project the last week or two. I brought the cabinet in off of the patio so it wouldn't get rained on, but I still have to sand down and paint the drawers. If things go well this weekend I'll make some progress on that. I'm going to Half Moon Bay on Wednesday to get some scenery and sit on the beach for a while. I haven't been there since January. When I went that time, the road to Murray Ranch Park was closed, so I'm hoping they got it fixed by now because I'd like to go for a walk there while I'm in the area. The last day to vote in the election is tomorrow. I'm stressing over it a little bit. I voted by mail this time about a month ago so I won't be going to the polls. I'm going to try and ignore it all tomorrow since I can't stay up all night watching to see who won, so I'll try and wait to find out who won when I wake up Wednesday morning. We'll see what happens, the next couple of months are going to be...eventful.

Update on things and stuff

I'm seeing a doctor today about my shoulder, finally. I had an appointment scheduled for last week, but the doctor called in sick that day. Sigh. It still hurts. I've taken some Tylenol to dull the pain but last night I couldn't sleep properly because of the pain. Being injured like this is annoying, especially since it's my left shoulder and I'm left-handed. Simple things like brushing my teeth hurts, and all I can do is grin and bear it. I hope the doctor finds a way to make it heal faster, it's been messed up since the first week of September so this has gotten real old. I missed the Python meetup last Tuesday because I was exhausted. They went over building AI apps using something called BAML. It's a shame I missed it, but I had been up for 18 hours at that point and just couldn't go. I'm going to try and make the next meeting though. I put another coat of paint on my toolbox project. I still have two more sides to do, then I move on to painting the drawers. Once that's done I get to reassemble it all and I'll finally be done with this project. I'm looking forward to that, it's taken too long to get to this point and I'm ready to have it done. I took my truck into the dealer for its 40,000 mile checkup, it cost me close to 7 hundred dollars but the truck is good to go for a while. I'm taking some time off next month and will be driving to Oregon and back, then doing that trip again in December. Lots of driving, it's a thousand mile trip there and back every time. I'm looking forward to it though, it'll be good to have a change of scenery again.

Confidence

I'm not feeling too confident right now. Lately I've been working through the statistics and machine learning lessons on DataCamp, and if it weren't for the built-in AI they have I don't think I'd ever figure it out. I haven't studied either subject thoroughly before so I try not to hate on myself for struggling, but it's hard. There's a lot of math, which I know I'm not good at. I can do algebra just fine, and I can even sit down with a math textbook and work through the examples, but there's something about it that just makes me feel inadequate when I don't easily understand a subject in math. It's always been like that with me and I don't know why really. Not a lot else going on lately. I missed the Python meetup last Tuesday, which is a shame but from looking at the Discord channel where they put the lecture slides I doubt I would've gotten much out of it. It covered some software I'd never heard of and I have a feeling the whole lecture would've gone straight over my head anyway. I'm planning on attending the next meetup, but you never know. I finished painting the first coat on my toolbox project. I'm going to put another coat on it, but right now I have to wait on the spray paint I ordered from Home Depot to arrive. It's supposed to take 10 or 11 days for some reason, maybe they're shipping it from China, I don't know. I think I have enough paint to cover the drawers so I might move forward with that part of it this coming weekend. We'll see. My router is still working. I haven't had to touch it since early last week, which is good. I replaced one memory stick in my big server, and that fixed the websites-being-down issue apparently, because everything has stayed up since I did that. Now, I need to figure out how to setup NAT on my Mikrotik router again so I can get my Ansible server up and running. After that, I have to figure out what's wrong with my Cisco 2821 router. It can't talk to one of the switches I have in the cabinet right now, and I think it's a logical error I'll have to figure out. Eventually I'm going to blow up the config on all my Cisco gear and set them up with the IP block I got from ARIN, but that's more of a long-term project. I have a lot to do before I get to that part of it all. I put in my vacation time for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I'll be driving to Oregon for both trips. It's time to start Christmas shopping again (ugh), I have a few ideas saved in an Amazon wishlist but I'm going to have to come up with more than just that if I want everyone to have a happy Christmas this year. There's 3 groups of people I need to shop for, and I'd like to find one gift I can get for each of them like I've done before. Last year it was miniature fire extinguishers. the year before that it was big boxes of food, and I can't remember what came the year before that. I'll come up with something.
